Multilingual high schoolers have an incredible natural gift. OpenLingua partners with secondary schools to offer structured, experiential career exploration—pairing students with certified professional mentors to learn the ethics, standards, and future of professional interpretation without the burden of adult institutional responsibility.
Notice: This program is strictly an educational shadowing and mentorship curriculum. It is not an employment position, does not offer paid student staffing, and explicitly prohibits students from acting as interpreters in live institutional, evaluative, or confidential school settings.

Why Boundaries Matter in Secondary Education
- Minors must never be tasked with interpreting for peers or parents in confidential conferences, IEPs, or discipline. This violates Title VI / FERPA guidance and places inappropriate adult stress on teenagers.
- Natural bilingual fluency is a wonderful asset, but professional interpreting requires rigorous mastery of ethics, registers, and protocols.

Classroom Foundations (Theory & Ethics)
High school modules covering the history of Title VI, Civil Rights in healthcare and education, the National Code of Ethics (confidentiality, impartiality, accuracy), and the role boundaries of an interpreter.
Professional Shadowing & Mentorship
High school students are paired with vetted, certified medical and court interpreters from the OpenLingua network for structured guidance, career coaching, mock-call roleplaying, and resume and pathway planning.
Future Professional Transition (Post-18 Readiness)
Equipping graduating seniors with the preparation, resources, and institutional literacy needed to pursue accredited domestic certifications (e.g., CCHI, NBCMI, state court credentials) once eligible as adults.
